Song of Solomon 2:15 “Catch for us the foxes, the little foxes that ruin the vineyards, our vineyards that are in bloom.”
As I was having my devotions the other morning, I spotted a fox running across the field. A rare occurrence, the first thing that came to mind was the Bible passage warning us not to let the “little foxes” ruin our vine. I couldn’t help but wonder if God was speaking to me.
I’d been experiencing some bigtime disappointments and had let “little foxes” of worry, fear and doubt creep into (and consume) my mind. It’s as if I was saying, Come on in, negativity, munch away! Go ahead and steal my joy, sabotage my faith.
Then I opened my morning’s devotional book and guess which scripture anchored the page…. Song of Solomon 2:15! God was turning up the volume.
Foxes are omnivores that eat anything and everything available. “Little foxes” in the spirit operate in much the same way. They pounce on any and every weakness. They took advantage of my discouragement. And when I let my troubling circumstances overshadow my trust in God, I became perfect prey.
The woman in the Song of Solomon knew “little foxes” in her life were hindering her from deepening her relationship with God. But she also knew she couldn’t get rid of them herself. So she cried out for help, asking the Lord to catch the foxes so the intimacy he desired wouldn’t be ruined. We must do the same.
Friend, don’t be surprised by the little foxes that pop up in your life. Especially when you face tough times. Ask God to help you “catch” the subtle areas of compromise. Fortify the faith that pleases him by believing his promises. Remember he is for us, not against us (Romans 8:31).
And choose to praise God. I imagine when those little foxes hear us singing praise to God, they realize help is on the way. They run away in fear, not us. So let’s not let anything ruin our vineyards. Let’s not give power to those little foxes.

Thank you what a beautiful devotion and a beautiful yet sly fox. Blessings
Karen,
Thanks so much for the encouragement!
