Galatians 3:5 “So again I ask, does God give you his Spirit and work miracles among you by the works of the law, or by your believing what you heard?”
We are saved because we believed what we heard.
The Holy Spirit lives in us because we believe what we heard.
We witness miracles because we believe what we heard.
We run into trouble when we stop believing what we heard and believe more in what we do. That’s what happened to the Galatians and I’m afraid it didn’t stop with them. We continue to face the challenge of whether to rely on God or on our own efforts to obtain the results we desire. Paul doesn’t mince words in describing our return to self-reliance. It’s foolish! (Galatians 3:1).
I can’t help but ask if the reason we don’t see many miracles is because we stop believing what we hear. Or maybe we don’t stop to listen in the first place. There are circumstances in my life right now that warrant supernatural intervention. But even though I pray for miracles, all too often I find myself wondering what I can do to make things happen. I worry; I fret; and I fail to develop the kind of trust God wants me to have. I should know better.
The foundation of Christianity rests on faith. From the call of Abraham who believed what he heard (Genesis 5:16) to Mary, the mother of Jesus, who believed what she heard (Luke 1:38), God calls us to believe in something greater than ourselves. If our faith goes no further than our efforts, the fruit we produce will have a short shelf life.
Yes. Miracles happen. They’re not due to some formula we work out or because we deserve to have God answer our prayers. We find miracles occurring when we see people believing what they heard. Has God told you to have faith for the salvation of an unbelieving family member? Don’t stop believing what you heard. Has he told you to pursue your dreams? Don’t stop believing what you heard. Has he spoke to you about a specific situation? Don’t stop believing what you heard.
Faith comes by hearing the Word of God (Romans 10:17). If we want to have earth-shattering, mind-blowing, miracle-working faith, then resist becoming like those foolish Galatians. Believe and keep believing what you have heard.
I struggle with things like that sometimes as well. I have to remind myself of all the prayers that have been answered in the past and how they were answered, leaving no doubt that it was God’s intervention. I’ve prayed that you will soon have His intervention too. God bless you and all the work and dedication you have for Him and Christ our savior.
Thank you Nancy. God bless you in your growing faith.
