Luke 12:7 Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.
“People are receiving their third stimulus checks and we haven’t even gotten our second one!” We wondered if the check was lost in the mail or stolen. Eventually, my husband contacted the IRS. The massive form we had to fill out proved to be both confusing and unsuitable for our situation. Who knew dealing with the IRS would be complicated?
A few weeks later Chip was collecting the leaves around the pachysandra on our patio. As the leaf blower sucked in the foliage, he noticed some white paper making its way into the shredder. He stopped the machine to investigate. And there, along with fragments of fallen maple leaves, he found the tattered remains of our second stimulus check that I must have dropped when bringing in the mail. Yep, $1200 lay scattered in the debris.
Like children putting together the pieces of a jigsaw, we scoured our yard looking for every fragment of the check we could find. We managed to reassemble about two thirds of it. But when Chip took the pieces to the bank to see if they would cash it, they said “No.”
Then a friend told him he could make an e-deposit if he had the router number from the bank issuing the check. Since our friend’s stimulus check was sent from the same bank, he supplied us with the numbers. When my husband took the check back to Wells Fargo and supplied the missing information, the teller called out to the manager, “He’s got all the numbers.” And we received the belated $1200.
It made me think of shattered relationships. When broken trust litters a once thriving fellowship, what remains is as worthless as our torn stimulus check. No matter how hard we try, we can’t piece it back together. We need someone with “all the numbers” to accomplish such a task.
Jesus has all the numbers. He knows everything from the number of hairs on our head to the number of times wounds from others cause us to feel worthless. He alone is able to cancel the debts of unforgiveness and fix the brokenness. We have no reason to fear when we lay all the crumpled pieces at his feet.
So no matter what kind of “shattered check” you might be experiencing, let the One who values you way more than $1200 bring you restoration.
Good word! Praying for you.
We haven’t seen a second stimulus check. That is not as important as living in truth and love.
