Matthew 19:26 “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
Ever feel like you’re in a lose/lose situation? You can’t imagine how God could ever bring good out this time. Finances have never dropped this low. The relationship has never been this broken. The future has never looked this gloomy. It’s often when circumstances are bleakest that God shines brightest. He can pull out a win even when it looks like a triple lose.
The Arameans had besieged the city of Samaria causing a famine that became so severe the women were even cannibalizing their children (2 Kings 7:3-9). Outside the city gate sat four men with leprosy. They, too, were starving and their options looked dismal. They could remain at the gate and die [first lose]; they could go into the city and perish with the other starving people [lose/lose]; or they could go to the Aramean camp and surrender where they had a chance of being spared, but most likely would also die [lose/lose/lose]. They decided on the third option. But a funny thing happened on the way to their deathbeds…
When they arrived at the camp they found it to be completely abandoned! God had caused the Arameans “to hear the sound of chariots and horses and a great army.” They mistakenly thought Israel had hired extra forces to fight against them so they panicked and “ran for their lives.” In their haste they left everything behind….food, drink, gold, silver, horses, donkeys. The lepers reported the good news to the king of Israel and the city was saved [WIN]!
Now who would have thought a miracle like that could happen? Not the citizens of Samaria. Not the lepers. They were so consumed with getting their next crust of bread that I doubt divine intervention was even considered. Although the famine occurred as a consequence of the people’s rebellion, God had no intention of letting them starve to death. Such is his mercy. Such is his power.
So how about those impossible situations you are facing right now? Even those lose/lose/lose ones. Take heart. God has a WIN for you. He remains the God with whom all things are possible.
